FMLA Administration for the Ambulance Service Manager
Scott Moore, Esq - EMS Resource Advisors / AAA

Managing employee leaves are one of the more complex and challenging tasks for any employer and can carry significant legal risk if handled improperly. In a recent survey, nearly 52% of employers believe that employees were fraudulently using and abusing FMLA leave. It becomes even more challenging when an employee takes intermittent FMLA.  Employers often become frustrated with managing intermittent leave because they feel that there is little they can do to combat FMLA abuse.  This session will provide employers with a solid understanding of an employee’s right to protected leave and the employer best practices for compliance and preventing abuse. We will discuss the most commonly litigated FMLA issues and how a few simple employer practices could have prevented those legal actions.  Attendees will leave this session with strategies to protect their organization and reduce FMLA abuse.

Avoid a  “Me Too” Event In Your Workplace
Scott Moore, Esq - EMS Resource Advisors / AAA

Despite nearly 50 years or anti-harassment legislation and employer education, a report released in 2016 by an EEOC Select Task Force found that there has been little progress made at preventing harassment in the workplace.  The fact is, organizations that tolerate sexual and other harassment in the workplace will have more of it. The Task Force highlighted several workforce risk factors found in organizations that have higher incidence of harassment.  This session will specifically highlight the risk factors most commonly found in EMS agencies. Attendees will learn how many subtle workplace behaviors, when left unchecked, can constitute or contribute to sexual harassment or a hostile work environment. This program will recommend changes that every EMS organization should make today that will greatly reduce the incidence of harassment experienced by their workers and being the next #MeToo.
